I have just deleted three users who joined yesterday and posted today!
[hr]
Looking at the user list - there are hundreds of potential spammers who have joined in the last week, some of them are awaiting account activation.

Who is authenticating these accounts?

Here's a tip - any user called something like "lkfdgjYoujydM" or "cmiiubveGwxxn" with a personal website like "www.fake_louis_vuitton.com" or "www.bogus_online_pharmacy.com" is probably a spammer!!!

Do not authenticate these users - delete them instead!

The website owners could be held criminally responsible under international law for hosting links to counterfeit goods.
[hr]
Even as I type this, new accounts are being created every 2 or 3 minutes!

Am I the only one that thinks this might be a little bit suspect?

Why can't the default account settings be changed so that the user's posts are permanently moderated to start with? - they can easily be restored to full privileges if they make genuine posts, and spam posts will only be seen by the Mods and can be deleted before anyone else sees them.

It's not working!

Get your money back :)

Just change the default settings for all new members, to have their posts moderated.

I don't think the approval process is helping much either!

We have nearly 13,000 members, with new ones being added every one or two minutes, 24/7 - so I am guessing it's an automatic process from 'Awaiting Activation' to 'Registered'.

If I am wrong, and there is an actual person approving these spammers - you need to 'have a word'. :)
